Whilst The Rain Was At Rest !

We had major down pores yesterday , so much that a small river was forming on the road flowing fast down the little hill of the road and deep puddles forming in the yard and fields !There was also high gusts of wind and boy it was cold as well !

Miggy was soo board and antsy as she always gets when its a rainy day and she cant go out much.

So as there was a small break in the rain this is what Miggy got up to !

DSC_1642

Miggy  found a big stick !

DSC_0003

By the time I saw her she had already had most of it chewed !

DSC_0006

Just need to get a better grip here !

DSC_0007

She had claimed the stick with the paw !DSC_0014  Then I called out to her cause she had no idea I was watching and taking photos.

She laid down fast and tried to hide and gave me the   wasn't me ! look  .

She does this when she has been busted , the kind of thing where they are trying to look innocent but know they are guilty in doing something lol ! I don't mind her chewing sticks its just the sap or juices  that's in the birch tree sticks can make her sick  if she chews it to much !

So I tell her ,  its ok Miggy good girl , time to come in now its starting to rain again !

DSC_0016                       She's like I will just nap here Mum ok!  Guard my stick !

She did come in and it started to rain hard again for the rest of the day

Today it has got that icy cold feeling in the air and it is  drizzling  wet snow, rain mix ! YUCKY !!! I don't depend on the weather man much anymore they are mostly wrong lol I use my farmers intuitions that my dad taught me ! The temp is below freezing and the air has that arctic smell and feel to it today .

I think a day like today calls for a home made Shepherds Pie for supper  YUMMY !

                                                             Until next time Smile

A Little Bit Of Colour On A Cold day

It is windy and cold out today with the temp at 5°C  or 41°F  and the wind makes it feel like  minus 3 , the sun keeps popping in and out but the clouds are taking over , snow clouds that is , I have seen the odd snow flake here and there so it is on its way soon.

I had posted a few photos of my reddish Cactus  that blooms like crazy this time of year . Now I just realised that my white Cactus is now blooming. The flowers are soo dainty .

This is about all the colour we have left around here now as all is brown and bare .

Vanilla Blueberry Cove Cake

Yesterday was an ikky  raining day and we even had a thunderstorm in the after noon . In the morning it held off long enough for Miggy and I to take our daily walk but then just after we made it in time before it poured. Today it is to be sunny and warm I think the weather people are on some wacky tobaccy as it is foggy and rainy right now this weather is soo out of whack every where.

Any who on to Papas sweets . I am not much of a baker but on the occasion I like to whip up something mainly for Papa as he has a sweet tooth and to be honest I don't need it , only goes to the hips and butt with me , don't get me wrong I wont deprive myself of the sweets just wont feast on them as he does lol

                                        Vanilla Blueberry Cove cake

DSC_1410

DSC_1411

It  was easy all ya need is  .  Vanilla Betty Crocker  extra moist cake mix , two containers of Whipped vanilla icing and a tin of E.D Smith  blueberry pie filling .

Mix cake as directed on the box then pour in two round  8 inch cake pans and bake at 325 F for 32 min  I do the old tooth pick trick to see if it is done lol then let cool in pan for 10 min on wire racks, then the first cake layer place on cake plate top down then frost with whipped icing and half the tin of pie filling the left over pie filling you can use in pancakes, on top of ice cream and so on or store it in the fridge in a covered container for no longer then 4 days, then add the second cake layer and finish icing , do the sides first as some of the blueberry filling wants to ooze out this way it keeps it in , it can get a little messy  at times during the frosting process . After you have finished frosting the cake put in the fridge for an hour to set the frosting a bit but mainly to set the blueberry pie filling and that helps  stop  it from being so runny, after the hour cut and enjoy , you can store it on the counter with a loose cover .

                                                  And that's my easy

                                         Vanilla Blueberry Cove Cake !

Papa loved it both are his favourite flavours !

Until next time hope you all have a sweet day !

Bits n Bobs & Crafts

Yesterday Papa started out the day  with doing bits & bobs around the house , Papa took the cutting deck off of the tractor and cleaned it up to be stored till next summer then Papa put the snow blade on and I helped him put the chains on the back tires and the weights. Then when we were done I stood there and looked at him and said “ now what” ?  Then I remembered our local community centre was having a craft sale and we both love craft sales and shows, so we packed ourselves and Miggy in the truck and off we went to the community center. As we entered there was a 2 dollar entry fee that goes towards the craft sale and you get tickets for door prizes. There were 2 levels full of wonderful hand made things, knitted baby cloths, hats, mittens, scarves, wood crafts and oh so much more. Papa and I walked the isles looking at all the great talent and talking to so many wonderful folk . I didn't see anything that really jumped at me  don't get me wrong it was all wonderful but even at craft sales and  craft shows it has to jump out at me for me to buy it . Then we heard a number being called over the loud speaker it was ticket 722 well Papa pulled the tickets out of his pocket and sure enough it was 722 WOOHOOO ! I wonder what we won.

And this is what we won a pretty hand crafted  heart ! I love it

DSC_1409

I had said to Papa what  would it  take to be in some of these craft shows and sell his custom made wood picture frames and easels and for both of us to sell our photos  in them . So I think I may push the idea on this and investigate.

After  the craft sale we went to town picked up a few things, I bought a new pair of sleep pants with horses on. I love wearing sleep pants and an old sweat shirt as  jammies   I know weird ! and then came home. Today we are just puttering around as we do every Sunday as Sundays here are relax day!

Until next time hope you all have a great day !

Our Country Cove Kitchen

I thought I would share what our country cove kitchen looks like. I took photos from all angles to try to get it all in. This kitchen is what sold us the house with the wood stove in it and the fact that this  farm house was built in 1895  before it was a school house and we still have the stone walls of the school house in our cellar . To get to the cellar we have a floor door in our mud/ laundry room . The wonderful people that sold us this house are good friends of ours now and they just literally live around the corner !

We did a few of our own touches like painting and carpeting in some rooms and we still are slowly doing other things bit by bit.

Over to the left on the floor is the Tater & Onion box Papa built for me , it works great !

DSC_1396

We try to bring in the colours of the out doors the wonderful colours nature has to offer !

DSC_1397

DSC_1401  We have a lot of pine and oak through out this house and we just love it  and the floors even have an old farm house creaking sound to them , to Papa and I it really is home sweet home,  Our Country Cove !

Hope you enjoyed our little tour of our country kitchen !

What was it that sold you on your country homes ?

Until next time , Have a wonderful day !

I couldn’t believe the weather yesterday it was like a summer day , warm and breezy not cold at all , in fact I was able to open my windows as I have done so today, this morning is lovely fresh a little cool but just beautiful.

Well no Possum today , I have put up the trap now as the rabbits  have gotten smarter .

A few more photos of the weird and unusual from yesterdays post.

This & That

DSC_1354 This has been stuck inside this log for years and I have no idea what it is! It is plastic I know that !DSC_1357DSC_1369   A cascade of mushrooms running down the log ! I love photographing the weird and the unusual.

As I was setting up this post this morning Miggy was sounding like she was having her fur ripped off, so I had to stop and see what the problem was  .” PAPA GET OUT  YOUR GUN , WE'RE HAVING POSSUM FOR SUPPER “!     not really just love saying and thinking that  Papa is at work  but I sent him an E-mail about it with that as the heading lol  hoping he may get a chuckle as he can picture me doing this .  I was in my rubber boots and jammie’s as usual when something like this  happens a real country bumpkin  I'd say, defiantly never in my Sunday best when things like this happen around here . The Possum got in the trap that we use for trapping the hundreds of rabbits we have around here as the rabbits are more of a nuisance then the Possums, Possums  do no harm for us here so I released  him in the field and watched him waddle away, he was a big one heavy to carry in the trap as well . I told Papa that the rabbits have figured us out with the trap since we haven't had any in it for some time and get everything else but rabbits so it is now closed  . At Our Country Cove ya never know what little adventures your gona find !

part 2 of This & That tomorrow.

Until next time hope you have a great day !
